Atlanta,
Sept. 19.- Various multinational corporations announced their
support for the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC)
for moving forward with the convention in Atlanta, and not canceling
in light of the terrorist acts that occurred last week in New
York and Washington.
George
Herrera, USHCC president, thanked the sponsoring companies for
backing the Chamber during the opening ceremony, which drew 300
people.
"This
decision was not an easy one," said Herrera. "Continuing
with the normal processes of the convention will help stabilize
the country, and that is very much needed."
Andy
Unanue, of Goyas Food, said that the Hispanic community should
not take a step back during this difficult time and assured his
total support for the Chamber.
Chriselda
Barrientes, of Continental Airlines, warned that during this time
we should not think of commercializing a product or promoting
tourism, "but of
promoting cultural diversity, unity and brotherhood."
Support
for the work of the USHCC was also expressed by Rhema Hernandez
of the Coors Brewing Company. "Our corporation is committed
to the USHCC." The USHCC also received words of support from
David Hernandez of PepsiCo and Elizabeth Lisboa-Farrow, Public
Relations Manager for the USHCC.
The
USHCC represents more than 1.2 million Hispanic businesses in
the United States and Puerto Rico, and generates more than $200,000
million dollars annually. (www.atlantalatino.com)
